When 8 year old Nelly was asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, she replied “a pirate”. Why? Because “they’re allowed to steal things”.
Her friend Ian said he wanted to be a paper-clip so he could “hold together important documents going to Tasmania”. Turns out, not all dreams come true. Over the years Nelly’s ambitions have ranged from sea-dog to marine biologist to super-model to Prime Minister. She ended up being a comedian via telemarketer, nanny, cultural studies academic, social worker, pyramid seller, professional rooster and very nearly, a naval officer. Join Nelly as she charts the choppy, hilarious and thoroughly unexpected waters of aspiration, expectation and realisation that shape us all.

Beginning Monday 25th January 2010, Nelly will be the fortnightly co-host of Boxcutters with the fabulous Josh Kinal.
Hosted by Josh Kinal, John Richards, Brett Cropley and now, Nelly Thomas, Boxcutters is a weekly look at the world of television. Created in 2005 by Josh, Brett and Ross McQueen, Boxcutters exists to fulfill a very important need: Television deserves respect.
At a time when TV is producing better storylines, better drama and better comedy than any other form of entertainment (we’re talking about you, Movies) there needs to be an outlet for independent discussion about the medium. Boxcutters is that outlet. Every week Boxcutters will bring news about the world of television, reviews, interviews and opinions (and a lot of love). You can subscribe, listen or download the podcast at http://boxcutters.net/
ABC Radio 774 Melbourne, from 11am
