In addition to stand-up, Nelly is fast making a name for herself as a character comedian. Nelly and Tanya Losanno co-founded the highly successful Character Comedy – a comedy room dedicated entirely to character comedy (i.e. no stand-up) and she often uses characters in her shows and corporate work. Whether it’s an up-tight human resources expert, a Christian telemarketer or competitive eater, Nelly has a character up her sleeve for you. Sometimes the transformation is so complete, it’s a little scary
“…her character work is brilliant…”
Colin Flaherty, The Groggy Squirrel
Why not consider one of Nelly’s characters to perform at or host your function or gig. The following characters are ready to go or she’s happy to write one to suit to occasion.
Dr Annabelle Gnoc-Jones has a passion for education, governance and women’s fashion. Leaving her rural school in South Australia at the age of 16 to pursue her love of textiles, she’s now settled in Africa with her family where she is using her concept of “Support and Control Governance” to transform the businesses of East Africa. She’s often heard speaking from her best-selling book “Brassieres, Broads and Board-rooms: Governance in the Global Fashion Industry”, that is when she’s not avoiding the authorities in various countries she’s left behind.
Mrs Whitelaw has your phone number and she’s afraid to use it! She’s cold calling people from all over Australia to recruit them to Australia’s newest and most exciting political party Family First – they’re putting the “right” back into “righteous”. She’s not sure about homosexuals but she loves Dancing with the Stars so that’s proves just how loving and tolerant she really is. No really, she is.
Ever wondered about this “New Liberal Voter” (NLV) that we keep hearing about in the media? Often confused with the CUB (cashed up Bogan), the NLV has less money and even less taste but his heart’s in the right place. He’s working class, but he votes Liberal because of interest rates and the fact that the Labor Party is full of poofters (no offence). He’s retired now of course but he fills his days with his two great passions – women and competitive eating (fair cop, it is a real sport). Oh, and don’t ask about the name, it’s something to do with the war – he and Nelly don’t talk about it.
Being left-leaning Fern Frond believes in the community more than she believes in the individual. She also tends to gravitate toward the high-moral-ground from where the air is very sweet. She’s pretty much right about everything and nicer than everyone else. She makes jokes about Amanda Vanstone being fat (it’s not sexist because she’s a Liberal). She’s incomprehensible, inconsolable and unbelievably annoying – she’s got firm views and she’s not afraid to share them. And she loves vegetables… A LOT.
